Check in at the Blaue Gans and you’ll be greeted by an artful mixture of tradition and modernity. The relatively small rooms with low ceilings and irregular plastered walls are filled with modern furniture and forward fabrics from Salzburger Heimatwerk. Over 90 artworks are distributed throughout the building, from Joseph Beuys and Rosemarie Trockel to Davis Moises’s “Vertigo-Taking Off” rocket, which was set out to open the 2008 Salzburg Music Festival and now has a new home in the hotels central courtyard. All artworks are for sale and are therefore constantly rotating making the Hotel seems like a living exhibition, favoured by artists, journalists and musicians for its calm atmosphere.
